Giant Stadium Memories

With the last game of football at Giants Stadium this weekend lets take a trip down memory lane of my childhood stadium. As a season ticket holder for the Jets many of my memories are with them but the Giant memories are much better and longer. With that said I will make a top ten list of my own of the two teams and link you to other peoples opinions. I look forward to hearing your memories at the stadium. Lets get it started with Bruce Springsteen's song to his home stadium: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqASHIMbkcg

I apologize that not all of the memories are positive but they are memories:

10. In 2003 the Jets beat Peyton Manning and company 41-0 in the Wildcard playoff (the weekend before with help from the New England Patriots the Jets won the AFC East because of an Adam Vinatiari fg in the last seconds in the kick heard round the Meadowlands).

9. The Miracle in the Meadowlands. With 30 seconds left and the Giants winning all they need is a kneel down to end the game and as Joe Pisarcik takes the snap and is about to hand off to Larry Csonka he fumbles the ball and Herm Edwards of the Eagles picks it up and runs it in for a td to win it for the Eagles (because of this victory formation is created with a kneel down and a deep safety). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzUHvg6QbaU

8. In 1998 the Jets were the number 2 seed in the AFC and beat the Jaguars at home to go to the AFC Championship game (where they lose to John Elway and the Broncos).

7. In the final game in 1981 Joe Danelo's 2nd overtime fg attempt goes through the uprights to beat the Cowboys 13-10 and on the next day the Jets beat the Packers to send the Giants to the playoffs for the first time in 18 years.

6. The Shootout between the Jets and Dolphins. This game was back and forth the whole time and a last second Ken O'Brien to Wesley Walker brought the game to overtime. In ot another O'Brien to Walker leads the Jets to victory (this is the first of many memorable games at Giants Stadium for these two hated rivals just ask Dan Marino and Jason Taylor).

5. The Giants 2000 team run in the playoffs. It begins with a win over the Eagles and then a trouncing of one of the best offenses in NFL history 41-0 over the Vikings (the Giants then went to the Super Bowl and were beat bad by the Ravens).

4. The 1986 Giants playoff run. First they beat the hated 49ers 49-3 and knock out Joe Montana. Then in the Championship game they beat the Redskins 17-0 in a windy cold day at the stadium (this is the first of three championships the Giants won while they called Giants Stadium home).

3. Fake Spike. The 2nd Jets Dolphins game to enter the top ten. In a game for 1st place in the AFC East Dan Marino gives the spike signal to kill the clock. As he is doing this he takes the snap and wide receiver Mark Ingram runs past Aaron Glenn and catches a td pass to beat the Jets. This was the beginning of the end for the Jets as they go on to lose 32 of their next 36 games. http://mobile.thephinsider.com/2009/8/1/971009/video-time-more-classic-marino

2. Jets Revenge. The Monday Night Miracle. With many fans leaving in the 4th quarter because the Dolphins were up 30-7 the Jets mount an unbelievable comeback (Jumbo Elliot's td)and go into overtime tied 37-37. In ot the Jets kick a fg and win a miracle 40-37. http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/monday-night-miracle-highlights/302DEEAEC5ACF78D5ADE302DEEAEC5ACF78D5ADE

1. This is not a game but something bigger and better than the game. Dennis Byrd's return to the Meadowlands and walking to the 50 yard line after being paralyzed in a game.

These are my top ten moments. I would like to see what you think. Hopefully the Jets can make another top moment Sunday night against the Bengals.

Week 17 Picks

Week 17 this year has a few playoff spots and seedings up for grabs but besides that many teams are just playing out their seasons.

Colts at Bills

The Colts will play Peyton and company for a half and end it. The Bills are playing out a stretch with a qb playing in his second game. Do the Colts put up enough in the first half to beat the Bills. I think they do and win 20-10.

Falcons at Buccaneers

With the way the Bucs have played the last few weeks this game will be a better game than people thought. I think it will be a close game but the Falcons pull it off 27-17.

49ers at Rams

The Rams are rebuilding and the 9ers are building for next year. I think the 9ers blow out the Rams 34-10.

Saints at Panthers

The Panthers have played spoiler well the last few weeks. The Saints have not played well the last few weeks and look lost. The Saints need this game for the number one seed. I see this as a close game but the Saints pull it off and get the number one seed 24-20.

Jaguars at Browns

The Browns have played great the last few weeks. The Jags lost a tough one last week. I think the Browns keep it close and pull it off 24-21.

Cowboys at Eagles

The game for the NFC East. This should be a great game. The Cowboys have found a way to win in December. The Eagles offense has been great. Can their defense save them. I see a good hard fought game with the Eagles winning the East 31-20.

Bears at Lions

In a game for pride I do not see much happening. If Stafford was playing I would like the Lions but without him the Bears pull it out 24-20.

Patriots at Texans

The Texans need help to get in. The Pats need to win to get the 3rd spot. I see a close game but the Pats pull it out in the end 27-20.

Steelers at Dolphins

What many thought would be a playoff game turns out to be two teams playing and hoping for a lot of help. I see both teams playing for pride and the Steelers winning because the Dolphins will miss Ricky Williams. Steelers 24-17.

Giants at Vikings

After last week's debacle can the Giants bounce back? I see them putting a better effort in the game but I see the Vikings battling for the number one seed and winning 27-14.

Packers at Cardinals

This will be a weird game. With the way things are in the NFC now these two teams will be playing each other next week. I don't think either team wants to show their hand so I see a very vanilla game plan for both teams. I think the Cardinals win this in a close game 23-20.

Ravens at Raiders

Ravens win they are in. The Raiders are trying to play spoiler. With Charlie Frye at qb for the Raiders I think they play hard but come up short. The Ravens knowing they have destiny I think they go all out and win 31-14.

Titans at Seahawks

With only 128 yards to get to 2,000 I look for Chris Johnson and the Titans to run all over the Seahawks. I think Johnson will get there. I see the Titans winning 31-10.

Redskins at Chargers

Norv Turner said he will play his players. I see them coming out in the 4th quarter. I see the Chargers getting out to an early lead and never looking back. I see a 24-10 victory.

Chiefs at Broncos

The Chiefs have played better the last few weeks. The Broncos lost a tough one last week and are playing for their playoff lives. I see a close game with the Broncos pulling it out 20-14.

Bengals at Jets

The game of destiny for the Jets. 8:20 Sunday night closing out Giants Stadium. The Bengals in the playoffs not playing for much. The Jets win and are in and go to Cincinnati the following week. Do the Bengals play everyone? We'll see on Sunday. Either way I see a close game with the Jets pulling it out 23-20.

Week 16 Quikhits

Some interesting games around the league and the embarrassment of the Colts decision.

-The Chargers went into Tennessee and destroyed the Titans on Christmas night. This clinched the number two spot for the Chargers and knocked the Titans out of the playoffs. I believe that this is the beginning of the Chargers run to the Super Bowl.

-The Falcons destroyed the Bills. Brian Brohm got his first NFL start and did not show much. TO caught his 1,000th pass in the NFL (only 6th player to do that). Congrats TO. Ryan and the Falcons took over this game early and never stopped.

-The Bengals won and clinched the AFC North. The Chiefs fought hard but came up short. Jamal Charles looks like a player and has a bright future. Now the question is do the Bengals play their starters against the Jets on Sunday night or pull a Colts and sit them. Knowing they will play the Jets the following week I would not be surprised to see the Bengals rest their starters.

-The Browns have played well the last few games and may save Eric Mangini's job. Jerome Harrison has been running hard and looks like he can be a star in this game. The Raiders played well but 3 picks by the Browns sealed their victory.

-Do the Seahawks know that at kickoff they are supposed to show up. They have played awful the last few weeks. Matt Hasselback looks old, the players are not playing, and Jim Mora should look over his shoulder. The Packers clinched a wildcard birth and have been playing great. The offense lead by Rodgers and Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson have lead the defense. This is a team I would want to avoid in the playoffs.

-What a crazy game in Miami. The Dolphins have started off slow the last few weeks then fight back then lose. Too bad they can not start the game or this team would be playing for the playoffs this weekend. The Texans had a great first half and were able to hold off in the end. The Texans seem to start the year off slow and close out strong. It is a question if Kubiak can save his job. I am not sure if he can but the Texans have a bright future.

-Typical Steeler-Raven game. Smashmouth hard fought defensive game. Luckily for the Steelers Derrick Mason dropped that TD pass, penalties killed the Ravens and Roethlisberger's hail mary interception (why did you throw that) was called back on a penalty or we would be talking about how the Ravens clinched a playoff spot already. The Steelers keep their playoff dreams alive though slim. The Ravens have to go to Oakland (which is harder to win than people think) in a win and in situation. If the Ravens do win and get in this is a team people would not want to play.

-Dear Giants you are closing out your stadium have a chance to keep your playoff chances alive and you are playing a team not in the playoffs. How do you get blown out at home? How does your defense not show up? Not only not show up but be scared to tackle. Jonathon Stewart ran threw you and you would have a chance to tackle him but you played like a matador. We'll call it the ole defense. What a shame Giants Stadium had to be closed down that way especially with all of the great history. As for the Panthers they are playing for John Fox's job and may have found their qb of the future. Matt Moore is 5-2 as a starter this year and has beaten two playoff teams the last two weeks.

-The Patriots blew out the Jaguars and more or less said all the talk about the other teams and the playoffs do not forget about us. The Patriots offense is still the same but there are still questions about their defense. The Jaguars had everything to play for and the better team won. It will be interesting to see what happens with Jack Del Rio.

-What has happened to the Saints? Up 17-0 and they lose 20-17. The Bucs have shown fight the last few weeks. Good builder for next year. The Saints have fallen back to the pack and there are alot of concerns with this team. One move I think that will hurt them is the releasing of John Carney. I believe if certain person has gotten you to a certain point you stick with them unless they make a mistake or the player coming back is an all-time great and in this situation neither applied.

-The Cardinals blew out the Rams and are holding out hope to maybe have an outside shot of being the number 2 seed. The Rams are seeing what they have for the future. Not that entertaining of a game.

-The 49ers beat the Lions easily. Not much to this game. Better team won and the Lions miss Stafford.

-The Denver Philly game was a great game. Two teams fighting for playoff spots. Both teams hungry for wins. The Eagles had a late lead that their defense could not hold. The Eagles offense scored a last second fg to win it. Set up by a great grab by Jeremy Maclin. The Eagles are a very good team and the only thing holding them back from being a Super Bowl contender is their defense. The Broncos took a tough loss and no longer hold their own destiny. To make the playoffs they will need alot of help at this point.

-Colts Jets. Not much happened in this game. Ok enough with the sarcasm. The Jets a team battling for their playoff lives. The Colts looking to close out the stretch with everything locked up. The question all week was will the Colts sit their stars. Well we learned in the 3rd quarter that they will. Leading 15-10 and 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter Jim Caldwell called the horses off. In a close game it was shocking to see Caldwell pull Peyton and company. Peyton and company wanted to get back in there. You could tell on the sideline. Even after the Painter fumble and the Jets took a 3 point lead Peyton was ready to get back in there and Caldwell said no. Many things can be said about this. I am not a football coach but if it was me in game 15 of 16 I am playing my team all the way through (except for two reasons 1. if the player is injured or 2. Peyton is getting hit and could get injured and the Jets did not even come close to touching him). If this was next week I would have no problem with that. As for the Jets. Everything that had to happen for them did and now they hold their own destiny. With a win Sunday night the Jets will play the Bengals again the following week. If the Bengals know their playoff seeding come Sunday night I would not be surprised if the Bengals do not show the Jets anything (like play their starters) and prepare for them the following week.

-With the Giants loss the Cowboys locked up a playoff spot with their shutout victory of the Redskins. The Cowboys Eagles game next week will be a good one. The Redskins defense played well last night but Jim Zorn's team forgot how to play offense.

Updates on Holgrem and Shanahan

So Holgrem to the Browns looks days away Chris Mortensen reports. This has been rumored for awhile and I think it's a great move for the Browns. The Eric Mangini watch will be on once this is announced.

Also Dan Snyder reached out to Pat Bowlan about Mike Shanahan. Bowlan raved about him and it will be interesting to see when or if he is announced the new head coach. I am surprised Shanahan would want a GM in place (Bruce Allen) because he was the GM in Denver. Either way once Shanahan is hired it will be a great one for the Redskins. My one fear is that Dan Snyder still might have a say but I think Shanahan and Allen will have powerful enough voices to prevent much of Snyder's influence.

Week 16

After a crazy week 15 welcome to an intriguing week 16 with playoff implications everywhere.

-The Christmas night game is the first one with playoff implications. The Chargers can clinch the number two seed. The Titans have slim hopes of making the playoffs but with a win and some help they will get closer. I see a smash mouth close game between these two hungry teams. As much as the Titans want this one I see the Chargers the better team and winning 24-20.

-Buccaneers at Saints: The Saints were upset about losing on Saturday and the Bucs played a great game in Seattle. I think the Bucs come back down to earth and lose to the Saints 31-10.

-Chiefs at Bengals: Both teams lost tough hard fought games. The Bengals are that much better and the Chiefs do not have a defense. I see the Bengals winning 23-10.

-Raiders at Browns: Which Raider team will show up? The one that beat the Steelers? The one that lost to the Redskins? I do not know and neither do they. I say it is the one that showed up for the Redskins game. I also see Josh Cribbs and Jerome Harrison having good days again. I see a 24-17 Browns win.

-Seahawks at Packers: The Seahawks have been playing awful. Not even competitive football. It will be interesting to see what happens with Jim Mora after the season. The Packers lost a tough one against the Steelers last week. I see them getting back on track and winning 31-10.

-Texans at Dolphins: A huge game for playoffs. The loser goes home the winner still will have dim hopes. The Texans offense and Andre Johnson have been playing great. The Dolphins play close games and either find a way to win or lose. I see another close game but the Dolphins pulling it out 27-24.

-Panthers at Giants: The Panthers are coming off a nice win against the Vikings. The G-Men kept their outside hope for the playoffs alive with a blowout in Washington last night. I see a close game with the Giants pulling it out at the end 27-20.

Jaguars at Patriots: The Jags look to keep their playoff chances alive. The Pats look to clinch the AFC East. I see a close game but the better team Patriots winning 27-17.

-Bills at Falcons: Two teams playing for pride and finishing out the season. The Falcons have a better offense which will be the difference in this game. I see the Falcons winning 24-10.

-Steelers at Ravens: If the Steelers win they are right back in the playoff picture. If the Ravens win they just about clinch a playoff spot. I expect to see a close hard hitting smash mouth game between two teams that hate each other. I see the Steelers winning a 20-17 win. This will be a classic.

-Rams at Cardinals: The Cards have not been playing great and the Rams have had some close games. I see the Cards getting back on track and winning 31-13.

-Lions at 49ers: The Lions played a great game against the Cards last week. The 9ers played great against the Cards and so so against the Eagles. I see the 49ers winning the game pretty easily 27-13.

Broncos at Eagles: The Broncos are battling for a playoff spot. The Eagles want 1st place in the NFC East. I expect to see a close game that both teams play hard. I see a 27-20 Eagles victory.

Jets at Colts: The Colts continue to look to go undefeated. The Jets look to spoil it. I expect to see a close game one in which Rex Ryan lets the defense fly around and lets Mark Sanchez loose. This is a tough game for the Colts because they are playing a team looking to spoil and a team that has nothing to lose. I see a close game with the Colts winning 28-24.

Cowboys at Redskins: The Skins look to be spoiler for NFC East teams (though they were far from last night). The Cowboys look to play for the NFC East title in their last game against the Eagles. I see a close game with the Cowboys winning 27-17.

Vikings at Bears: Childress vs. Favre. Does their relationship hurt the Vikings? We'll see on Monday night. Can the Bears save Lovie's job? Can Cutler not have a pick? Very interesting game. I see the Vikings winning 23-10.

Week 15 Recap

What a wacky week 15. Many close games. A number of games with playoff implications. It was a fun day in the NFL.

-It all started with a back and forth game between the Colts and Jaguars. The Jags were really trying hard to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Colts were looking to continue to be undefeated. This game came down to who had the ball last and Manning hit Wayne for a 60 plus yard td. Fun game.

-The Cowboys knocked the Saints from the undefeated. No one saw this coming. With Dallas's December swoon and the Saints playing great it looked like a Saints victory would come easy. It turns out the Dallas d stopped a late Saints rally for the win.

-Now onto the wacky Sunday games. The Patriots beat the Bills. Little closer than the game was. Nothing much happened in this game.

-This could have been the game of the week but you had two bad teams and no one really cared. It was a shoot out with big plays all around. Josh Cribbs had two kickoff returns for tds and breaks the NFL record with 8 total. Jerome Harrison ran all over and had the 3rd biggest rushing day in NFL history. The Chiefs kept battling back and with 45 seconds left the Browns scored the late td to win it.

-In what was a huge game for the Jets they lost a closely played game to the spoiler Falcons. The Jets got an early 65 yard td from Sanchez to Edwards and it looked like they may run away with the game. After that the Jets offense stumbled and 3 attempted fgs went awry. The Falcons couldn't move the ball on the Jets defense all day but on their last possession they put a drive together to really hurt the Jets playoff chances.

-The Texans beat the Rams in a battle of defense. Andre Johnson had another huge game but just did not find the end zone. With the win the Texans are one of about ten teams battling for the last playoff spot and have a huge game against the Dolphins this week.

-The Titans offense with Chris Johnson and Vince Young continue to roll. A late rally by the Dolphins tied it up and the game went into overtime but the Titans kicked a field goal to win it. At 7-7 both teams have a shot at the playoffs. It would be fun to see the Titans get in. No one would want to play them.

-The Cardinals got out to an early lead. The Lions battled back and on the last drive Warner was able to lead the Cardinals for the game winning td. Going into the playoffs the Cardinals have not played that well and is a bit of a concern in Arizona.

-Another crazy game. The Raiders lead by Jamarcuss Russel won on a late td from Russel to Chaz Schillins. The Broncos are not playing well and another loss could lead to them being knocked out of the playoffs after starting 6-0.

-In a great game the Chargers beat a heavy hearted Bengals team. It was a great game. The Chargers got an early lead and the Bengals battled back and then a last second fg by Nate Kaeding won the game.

-The Ravens are rolling to the playoffs and embarrassed the Bears. So much so that Jay Cutler was pulled from the game. Rumblings are coming about Lovie's job but the Bears have said it will not happen. It will be interesting to see what happens in Chicago because I believe a change is needed.

-The Bucs upset the Seahawks in Seattle. This was a shocking win but the Seahawks have not shown up the last few weeks. Will be interesting to see the Seahawks offseason.

-The Eagles beat the 49ers pretty easily. The Eagles offense is rolling and will be fun to see what they will do in the playoffs.

-Packers Steelers what a game. Back and forth and it looks like the Packers have won. On the last second Rothlisberger to Wallace for the td. What a throw and what a catch. With the win the Steelers get back into the playoff talk with a 7-7 record and will be interesting to see what happens in the AFC with the final two weeks.

-Carolina shocked the Vikings and beat them big. Favre and Childress got into in on the sideline. As good as the Vikings have played keep a close eye on the 40 year old Favre. Makes you wonder if he is running out of gas.

Another fun week in the NFL. It'll be a fun final two weeks.

Chris Henry Passes Away

One day after being seriously injured falling out of a truck Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver passed away today from the injuries. It has been reported that this was due to a domestic dispute. This is an unfortunate situation. This was not Chris Henry's first run in with this type of situation. Either way it is sad and too young for someone to die. My prayers and thoughts goes out to Chris Henry's friends and family.

Now looking at this from a football standpoint this is a tough blow to the Bengals. This is the second person this team has lost. Earlier in the year the team lost Mike Zimmer's wife. The team responded well to that loss and even won the game following her loss.

This loss will have more of an impact on the Bengals than people think. I think the Bengals were going to have a tough time in San Diego this week before this and now I think it will be even worse. The loss of a teammate is tough for a team to overcome and this loss will be tough on this team. The Bengals should reach out to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on how to deal with such a loss. I hope the Bengals can recover from this.

Cerrato Leaving

So the shakeup in Washington begins. Vinny Cerrato the VP of Football Operations for the Redskins announced he is stepping down. Was he fired or did he step down? I guess we'll find out but this is the second time Cerrato is leaving the Redskins.

This move is no surprise. This will free up a football Czar position similiar to what Bill Parcells has in Miami. With Jim Zorn being next after the season ends the rumors will start who will be the next coach of the Redskins. Knowing Daniel Snyder he will want a big name. Jon Gruden was rumored to be linked there but he signed his extension with ESPN and said he does not want to coach for 2 or 3 more years. Mike Shanahan could be an option but I think he has his eye on the Chicago job (where Jay Cutler his former qb is) or Dallas. Then there is Mike Holgrem. Holgrem has spoken to Cleveland and he seemed to be interested. He has also been linked to the Seahawks so I don't see that happening. Then you have Bill Cowher. Everything is pointing to Carolina for him.

Snyder will throw all the money in the world at these coaches but if he does not get one of them maybe he will try to get Ron Wolf or Ernie Arcosi out of retirement. I do not know what will happen it will be interesting to see what happens with this situation but I will not be surprised to see Jim Fassel's name appear here as well.

Locker staying

Junior quarterback Jake Locker said he will be staying in Washington for another season. Many believed Locker was the best available qb coming out this year. With him staying in this will help Jimmy Clauson and Colt Mccoy. I was surprised by the decision especially after what happened to Sam Bradford this year. I'll keep an eye out on this situation because I think Locker may still change his mind.

Week 15 Picks

Colts @Jaguars

If the Colts play their starters all the way through it will be a tough game for the banged up Jags to win. I see a close game with Peyton and company playing the whole game and winning 21-17.

Cowboys at Saints

The Cowboys are playing poorly again in December. The Saints have found ways to win the last few weeks. I see a close game until the 4th quarter where the Saints will run away with it. I see a 31-17 Saints victory.

Browns at Chiefs

For the 100 people that have to be at this game luckily they are getting paid for it. This is a battle of two teams playing for pride. The Browns played a great game against the Steelers last Thursday. The Chiefs played a close game against the Bills last week and if Matt Cassel was not a turnover machine they might have won that game. I see a close game with the better team the Chiefs winning 24-20.

Texans at Rams

Well Houston should have another huge game. The Texans offense is clicking and the Rams are looking forward to January 4th. I see the Texans running away with this game 37-10.

Falcons at Jets

This should be a good hard fought game. The Jets are fighting for a playoff spot and the Falcons are holding out very dim hopes. Both starting qbs missed last weeks game. If it is a battle of backups the edge goes to Atlanta because Redman is better than Clemens, but the Jets defense is that good it could be the edge. With that being said I think the Jets pull out a very close game 20-17.

Dolphins at Titans

Titans look to be playoff spoiler against the Fins. Chad Henne has been playing great and so has the defense. The Titans have looked phenomenal with Young as qb and has really helped Chris Johnson. If Young plays I see a Titans win. If not I think the Fins pull it off. I'm going with Young in this pick now and I see the Titans winning 24-20.

49ers at Eagles

The 9ers are coming off a very motivated win. The Eagles are coming off a high powered offense game. I think the 9ers suffer from the Monday night hangover and lose 38-10.

Patriots at Bills

A battle of AFC East teams that always play close. I think the past few weeks the drama that the Patriots have created finally catch up to them. I see the Bills capitalizing on the weakened Patriots and winning 23-20.

Cardinals at Lions

The Cards are mad after the embarrassment on Monday night. I see them coming out and steamrolling the Lions 41-3.

Bears at Ravens

The Ravens rolled last week against the Lions and the Bears lost a close one on a Cutler int. The Ravens are too good to lose this one. Ray Rice has been playing great. Ravens 27-13.

Raiders at Broncos

Is Gradkowski playing? If so this is a close game if not the Broncos run away with it. I'm going with Gradkowski playing. I see a 24-20 Broncos victory.

Bengals at Chargers

For the number two playoff spot in the AFC. This is the game of the week. I see both teams playing well and playing hard. I give the edge to the Chargers because they have been here before and are playing at home. Charegers 27-17.

Buccanneers at Seahawks

The Seahawks are at home. The Bucs are looking to January 4th like the Rams. The Seahawks will win 24-7.

Packers at Steelers

Earlier in the year people looked at this as a great game. With the way the Steelers have been playing it is not as good as originally thought. The Packers are playing well and have inside position for the 5th playoff spot in the NFC. I see a close game with the home team Steelers pulling it out 27-23.

Vikings at Panthers

The Vikings are the better team. The Panthers do not have enough offense. I see the Vikings winning 27-10.

Giants at Redskins

The Giants have been playing great offensively and not defensively. The Redskins have played very well as of late but can't close. I see the Giants fighting for their playoff lives and finding a way to win 24-17.

Week 14 quickhits

-Well the Browns proved again any given Sunday someone can win. Great defensive scheme by Rob Ryan and the coaches in this game. Josh Cribbs is a playmaker anytime and anywhere he touches the ball. He is fun to watch. The Steelers playoffs hope are shot. Does Big Ben and Hines Ward remain teammates next year. Time to play for Steeler pride.

-The Saints have had a few close ones but are finding ways to win. The Falcons were without Ryan or Turner but Redman filled in admirably and and almost beat the Saints.

-The Ravens manhandles the Lions. Ray Rice had a field day out there and the Lions looked lost.

-The Packers won a back and forth game with the Bears who lost on another costly Cutler turnover.

-The Colts keep rolling. Great game by Brandon Marshall. When he puts his head to it he is a great receiver. Great decision by the Broncos to keep him.

-The Dolphins played well offensively in the first half and the defense help their two first half tds. The Jaguars hurt there playoff chances with the loss and now have the Cotls coming in playing there healthy players.

-The Bills beat the Chiefs in a close game with not many people watching. At least the Bills can play playoff spoiler against the Patriots this weekend in Buffalo. It could happen.

-Minnesota showed the league they are for real with a blowout against a good Bengals team.

-Do the Seahawks show up for away games? Jim Mora should be careful. The Texans played great but I don't think this late season run will save Kubiak.

-The Pats are not the Pats of old and Moss is being questioned if he put out his all. This could be trouble for the Patriots. Welker is still a great player but without Moss Welker will not be as effective. The Panthers played well but just don't have enough offense.

-The Jets beat the Bucs in a lackluster game. Freeman threw a pick on the 1st play from scrimmage and that more or less ended the game. The Jets had great field position throughout but suffered could not punch it in. They really missed Sanchez. Also if not for a Bart Scott personal foul the Jets probably would have had a shutout.

-Chris Johnson is all I have to say about this game wow!!! The Titans continue to roll with Vince Young. Hopefully his hamstring is not that bad and he'll be ok to play this week. The Rams continue to struggle and have a huge rebuilding job ahead.

-The Redskins finally closed out a game but it could have gotten help from the fact that Bruce Gradkowski got knocked out of the game. Jamarcus Russel did nothing in his chance and maybe looking for a job very soon.

-The Chargers helped the Cowboys in their December swoon. The Cowboys got a late td to make it closer. The Cowboys have to find a way to win to get into the playoffs and the Chargers need to continue to play like they are and they should be battling in the AFC Championship.

-Giants vs. Eagles. Isn't this supposed to be a smashmouth run game. Anything but. DeSean Jackson what a joy to watch. Overall a great game. Hopefully both teams will find a defense so they can go far in the playoffs.

-The Cards looked to clinch the NFC West but the 9ers ruined their plans. The Cards offense did not look comfortable thanks to the scheme the 9ers put in. Too bad the 9ers couldn't win more games they seem to be firing on all cylinders. Their future is very bright.

Claussen and Tate Going Pro

In a not so shocking announcement both Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate announced today that they are leaving Notre Dame and going pro. Clausen played well this year and at times was considered a Heisman candidate. With Clausen coming out it makes this years group of qbs in the draft a very good one. Clausen is probably the most ready for the NFL coming from a pro offense. You add in the spotlight of Notre Dame and Clausen maybe the most polished of the group. I expect him to be a top 10 pick this year especially with the teams that are looking for a qb. Look for the Redskins, Bills, Browns, Panthers, Rams, Raiders, Seahawks, and 49ers to express interests in Clausen.

Tate on the other hand had a great year. He really developed his skills this year and emerged onto the scene. Tate is a good quick player. Some may question his size in the NFL at 5'11. Being in Weiss's offense that should help Tate and with the recent success of Eddie Royal and other smaller receivers I think Tate will be a nice slot receiver in the NFL. I look for Tate at this point to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick. With combine and pro days and all he may move up but at this point a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Coaches on the hot seat

1. Jim Zorn- We all know Zorn is out at the end of the year. The Redskins have been playing better. This will be a good team to come to. The offense has pieces and the defense plays well. Snyder and Cerrato are tough to coach for but look for one of the Super Bowl coaches to get this job. I see Shanahan the one the Skins want but Cowher will be pursued too.

2. Eric Mangini- The Browns are in shambles and Mangini has not helped. I expect Randy Lerner to look for a Parcells type if not Parcells himself. I see Ron Wolf or Rich McKay as the Parcells type to take this job and to see Mangini out. This team needs an established coach but I do not see one coming from the Super Bowl winners. I see Jim Fassel or someone like that possibly getting this job.

3. John Fox-The writing is on the wall. Fox has had a great tenure in Carolina but it is time for these two teams to part ways. This is Bill Cowher's job. His family lives there and he has many other connections in Carolina. If Cowher does not get this job I would be very surprised.

4. Perry Fewell-He is the interim coach as it is. The Bills have played better with him as the head man. The Bills want one of the Super Bowl coaches and have spoken to Mike Shanahan. Not sure if he would like it but maybe Brian Billick if not I see maybe Leslie Frazier.

5. Lovie Smith-This is where I see Mike Shanahan deciding between here and Washington. Lovie has done a great job in Chicago but a change is needed.

6. Jim Mora-Only one year in and Ruskell resigned and the Seahawks are underachieving. I see Mike Holgrem coming back as the GM and either giving Mora one more year or looking for a new coach.

7. Gary Kubiak- This was supposed to be the Texans year and they have disappointed . Kubiak seems to keep getting the Texans just outside of the playoffs. Maybe Greg Williams here.

8. Wade Phillips-I see the Cowboys folding down the stretch and Jerry Jones looking for a new coach. I think he would love Shanahan and this maybe it for Shanahan. He seems to have 3 choices it's a question on where he will feel the most comfortable. Jerry Jones hopes it's in Dallas.

9. Jack Del Rio- With this playoff run he might save his job but something to keep an eye on.

Hines Ward Come On

Late last week Hines Ward questioned why didn't Ben Rothlisberger play last week against the Ravens. With everything that is going on with concussions in the NFL it was no surprise Ben sat. Hines Ward has no right questioning why or why not someone is playing. Hines is a tough player but when it comes to head injuries be as cautious as possibly. Hines and Ben made up but I wonder about their relationship from here on in.

Week 14 Picks

It is week 14 time for fantasy playoffs and for the NFL playoffs to take shape. Time for the pretenders and contenders to show their faces. Onto Thursday's game.

-Steelers at Browns

A battle of two teams that are not playing well. The Steelers are holding onto playoff hopes and the Browns are looking to ruin it. The Steelers defense has failed this team the last four weeks. The Browns are coming off a hard fought game against the Chiefs. With the short week I expect to see the better team win. The better team is the Steelers and I see them winning 21-10.

Saints at Falcons

Weeks ago people thought this maybe the Saints first loss. The Falcons are really banged up. Without knowing the status of Turner or Ryan I still think the Saints will win the game. The Saints will be happy to be back inside a dome with the faster surface. I see the fast scoring Saints winning 34-10.

Panthers at Patriots

The Patriots defense has been exposed the last few weeks. The offense is still great (though it was shut down the last two weeks) and Wes Welker has been even better. The Panthers should be much better and are just playing for pride. Luckily for the Patriots the Panthers don't really throw the ball. I see the Patriots getting back on track and winning 31-13.

Bills at Chiefs

This is a tough game to call. The Bills coming off a loss to the Jets and the Chiefs getting blown out by the Broncos. This will be a fun game to watch but I see the more consistent team winning here and that is the Bills. I see a 24-20 win.

Lions at Ravens

The Ravens are coming off the Monday night game and the Lions are coming off a loss to the Bengals. The Lions have been showing guts playing banged up and playing hard. The Ravens are battling for a playoff spot and have been playing well. I look for Ray Rice to have a big game and the Ravens winning 27-10.

Bengals at Vikings

This maybe the game of the week. Two division leaders playing good football. The Bengals are looking to win the AFC North and maybe a first round bye. The Vikings are looking for the NFC's number one seed. I see a close tough game but the Vikings and Favre pull it out 27-23.

Jets at Buccaneers

Freeman is coming off of five picks. Sanchez is coming from another knee injury this time to the right one. Both first round qbs have had their ups and downs this year. If Sanchez is healthy enough to play and with the way the Jets defense has played the last two weeks I see them winning a close game. If Sanchez does not play I still see the Jets winning but would not be surprised if the Bucs upset them. This is a big game for the Jets as they try to keep their slim playoffs hopes alive. I see a 20-10 Jet win.

Dolphins at Jaguars

Both of these teams come off huge wins to keep their playoff chances alive. I see a close hard fought game between these two playoff hungry teams. I see the Jags winning a real close one 23-20.

Packers at Bears

The Packers look to keep their playoff dreams alive. The Bears look to be spoiler. Since the return of Mark Tauscher the Packers offensive line and Aaron Rodgers have been playing much better. Jay Cutler has struggled this year and Lovie Smith is on the hot seat. I see a close battle between these bitter rivals but the Packers pulling off a 24-20 victory.

Broncos at Colts

The Broncos are fighting for a playoff spot as well as a division title. The Colts are looking to lock up home field advantage. Both teams played real well last week. I see the Colts being the better team and winning this one easily. The Colts 31-14.

Seahawks at Texans

Two teams that more was expected from. Two coaches maybe on the hot seat. The Seahawks have trouble on the road. I see the Texans holding out hope for a playoff spot and playing well. I see a Texans 27-20 victory.

Redskins at Raiders

Two teams that seem to play well but find ways to lose (though the Raiders did find a way to beat the Steelers). The Raiders are much better with Gradkowski. The Redskins seem to find ways to lose. I see a close game but the Raiders pull away at the end. A 27-17 Raiders win.

Rams at Titans

Though the Titans lost last week I see them still playing well and a team out to prove something. The Rams have trouble everywhere and are rebuilding. I see a lopsided Titans victory 38-10.

Chargers at Cowboys

The Chargers are playing great in all aspects and LT has played real well the last few weeks. The Cowboys lost a tough game to the Giants last week. Both teams hold a slight lead in their divsions. I see a close hard fought game but I give the Chargers a slight edge because they seem to win these important games in December. I see the Chargers winning 31-27.

Eagles at Giants

Two teams battling for their playoff lives. Two teams that seem to always find this late season game for a division title or playoff spot. Two teams that hate each other. I see a tough hard fought game with the Giants winning 23-17.

Cardinals at 49ers

The 9ers beat the Cards week 1 of the season and many thought this game would be for the division title. Well the 9ers have won only four other games and have disappointed. The Cards have played great on the road. I see a good game but the Cards more or less locking up the division title. I see a 27-20 Cards win.

Monday Week 13 Quickhits

What a wacky week 13 with some upsets and some real close games.

-Jets Bills started the week in a ho-hum game. The Jets should have blown the Bills out but they won. Darrell Revis is proving he maybe the best corner in the game. The lights in the Rogers Dome affected Braylon Edwards on a td catch and Terrell Owens on an almost pick. Final not on this game Mark Sanchez learn how to slide but I like the dive for the first down.

-Could we be seeing the end of the dynasty. Great win by the Dolphins. The Patriots are not the same team they once were. Many people felt the Pats d would struggle but not this much. You let a team like the Dolphins play it close and they will find a way to win. The Pats will win the AFC East but may have problems in the postseason with this defense. Then again with Brady and Belichek they are always in it.

-The Bucs should have gotten another win today but Josh Freeman turned it over 5 times and Connor Barth missed two field goals. Both teams are playing real bad and I believe Raheem Morris will be ok but the whispers of Bill Cowher to the Panthers are getting louder.

-The Bears beat the Rams in another ho-hum game. Both teams are going nowhere and need help in all aspects of their game.

-The Eagles rolled over the an injured Falcons team. The Eagles help their playoff chances and the Falcons are holding on though slipping quickly.

-The Bengals took care of business today by beating the Lions. The Lions had a last second score to make it look closer but with the Steelers loss the Bengals are looking good in the AFC North.

-Jacksonville solidified a spot in the playoffs as of now with the win over the Texans. The Jags have been coming on as of late and I look for them to play well down the stretch. The early injury to Schaub hurt the Texans today. Tony Kubiak will be looking over his shoulder the final few weeks of the season the Turk may come a knocking.

-In the shocker of the weekend the Raiders upset the Steelers. Bruce Gradkowski returned home and beat his childhood team. He had a great game and the Raiders played fantastic. The Steelers are reeling coming off of four straight losses with two against the Chiefs and Raiders. Right now the Super Bowl champions may not get a chance to defend it in the playoffs.

-In the game of the week the Saints pulled one off against the Redskins to stay undefeated. The Skins have played well recently but can't seem to close out these games. The Saints played with fire again and got away with a victory. Eventually both of these teams will end up on the opposite end of these close games.

-The Broncos rolled the Chiefs today. The last two weeks the Broncos have played great and have a strong hold on a wildcard birth as well as a chance at the division. The Chiefs continue their up and down season. One week the team looks great and the next week they seem not to show up.

-The Colts continued to roll and the Titans train was derailed. The game seemed closer with a late td by the Titans.

-The Chargers destroyed the Browns but it doesn't appear that way because the Browns got two late scores to make it look much closer. Good effort by the Browns though.

-The Giants got a huge win over the Cowboys. They are now a game out of the wildcard and the division title. The Giants seem to be on the right track after this game. I see the Cowboys schedule and see them falling out of the playoffs and Wade Phillips on the unemployment line.

-The Seahawks continue to win at home with a last second field goal against the 49ers. Mike Singletary keeps saying he wants to build a winning tradition in San Fran and to do that they have to beat the Seahawks.

-The Cardinals ended the Vikings run and gave them their first loss in the NFC. Unless something happens the loss by the Vikings should give the Saints home field advantage in the playoffs. Kurt Warner coming off if his concussion played great and the Cardinals looked great in all three aspects of the game. If I am the Saints or the Vikings I would not look forward to playing the Cardinals in the playoffs.

Tonight's game is a big game for playoff purposes. If you root for a team in the AFC then you are rooting for the Packers and if you root for a team in the NFC then you are rooting for the Ravens. Either way it should be a great games.

Parcells to the Browns?

Mike Florio of pft and others are reporting that Bill Parcells is talking to the Browns about their team president position. Parcells has an out in his contract so he is aloud to do this.

Ok Bill I like you and all but can we stay in one place and build a winner their before we leave. The Dolphins are much better than when you came but still have things to do. Lets get this job done then move on.

That being said Parcells to the Browns would be great for the league. The NFL is a much better place with the Browns as a competitive team. We all know Parcells knows football and he gets players that fit his system and play well. If this happens the Browns will be relevant again.

Week 13 Picks

So last week I went 13-3. Lets keep the winning going. Lets take a look at our week 13 picks.

Jets at Bills

The Jets play good defense and have a great running game. They are working with a rookie qb. The Bills are playing great for their new coach. I see a good game but the Jets edge the Bills 24-17.

Rams at Bears

Two teams struggling and getting ready to rebuild. I see the Rams keeping it close but losing in the end 27-17.

Patriots at Dolphins

The Dolphins had a tough loss against the Bills last week. The Pats are coming off of their Monday night game and most teams have difficulty after playing on Monday night. These two teams always play close games and I see another one. I see the Patriots pulling it out at the end 27-23.

Eagles at Falcons

The Falcons come in all banged up and no Matt Ryan. The Eagles offense continues to fly. I see the Eagles winning this one 31-14.

Saints at Redskins

The Redskins have been playing great but can't seem to hold a lead late. I think the Saints take this one pretty easily 34-17.

Titans at Colts

The Colts have come close to losing. The Titans are playing worry free football. I see a good game but the Colts pull it off 31-24.

Raiders at Steelers

The Raiders have played better with Gradkowski. The Steelers miss Big Ben and Polamalu. The Steelers are a better team and pull it off 27-13.

Broncos at Chiefs

The Chiefs play well at home and the Broncos played really well against the Giants. I think the Chiefs play them close but the Broncos pull it off 21-10.

Buccaneers at Panthers

The Bucs have been playing great and the Panthers seem to always lose because of Delhomme. I see a close game with the Bucs winning 23-17.

Lions at Bengals

The Bengals bounced back nicely after their loss to the Raiders. I see LJ continue to run well against a bad Lions defense and a Lions offense that improves each week. I see the Bengals winning easily 27-10.

Texans at Jaguars

This will be a great game. Two teams hungry for the playoffs coming off of tough losses. I see the Texans with more offense in this game and winning 28-24.

Chargers at Browns

I see the Chargers continue to roll and the Browns continue to flounder. I see the Chargers winning 34-10.

Cowboys at Giants

Two teams that hate each other battling for the division title. The Giants defense is reeling and the Cowboys offense has struggled in recent weeks. I see a close game but the Giants get the benefit of playing at home and win 24-20.

49ers at Seahawks

The 49ers are a weird team but play good defense and struggle on offense. The Seahawks beat who they are supposed to beat and lose when they are supposed to lose. I see this as a game the Seahawks are supposed to lose. I see the 49ers winning 27-17.

Vikings at Cardinals

What a matchup and maybe a playoff preview. Is Warner healthy enough to play? If so I see a great offensive shoot out. If not I see the Vikings winning easily. That being said I'm going with Warner is playing. So I see the Vikings winning a wild one 34-28.

Ravens at Packers

Another good game. Two good defenses and offenses that have shown flashes. Both are battling for playoff positions. I see a close one and the Ravens pulling it out 24-20.

Week 12 Quick Hits

-Atlanta got one with a banged up team. Great job by Chris Redman.

-The Bills played inspire again for coach Perry Fewel and got him his first win. Ryan Fitzpatrick and Terrell Owens who would've thought?

-What a crazy game in Philly. The Eagles offense bailed them out. As for Andy Reid's onside kick. You are better then the Redskins. You do not need to do that.

-The Seahawks beat the Rams. Not much to say. Both teams just finishing out a tough year.

-The Jets did their best to lose this game but Jake Delhomme did better. John Fox time to bench Jake. The Jets keep their slim playoff chances alive especially with losses from teams in front of them.

-The Bengals beat the Browns. LJ had a 100 yard day. The Browns kept it close. The Bengals went undefeated in their division which is huge in tiebreakers.

-The Colts win again. They score 28 unanswered and their offense keeps on rolling. The Texans play well again and lose a tough one.

-The Chargers killed the Chiefs. No surprise here. The Chiefs come off an emotional victory and it is tough going on the road after that. The Chargers offense played great and they keep on rolling.

-Talk about two teams that you do not know who will show up or how they play the 9ers beat the Jaguars. David Garrard had costly turnovers and the 9ers defense played great.

-The Vikings and Favre keep on rolling. The Bears have alot to take care of without a 1st or 2nd round pick this year. The Vikings and Favre are for real and play great in all aspects of the game. If they get home field advantage watch out for them.

-In the game of the week the Titans keep rolling with Vince Young at qb. It took a last second td but the Titans got the win.

-The Ravens play a good one against the Steelers and come away with the win. I wonder if the game would have been different if Big Ben played. Dixon did have a good first half but seemed to be nervous in the 2nd.

-The Saints took it to the Pats. The Pats secondary was exposed. The Saints are for real.

Cowher to the Jets

Mike Florio reported that the Jets maybe looking to hire Bill Cowher at the end of the season. Didn't the Jets just hire a new coach who has shown that he will be a good coach? That is what I thought. Then where did Florio get this information. I do not know. He is a good reporter but this one seems weird to me. It took Cowher a number of years before he won a Super Bowl with the Steelers and teams need to learn that when running a team it is not fantasy. Give coaches time to get their systems in place and build their team. Rex Ryan deserves that.

An exception to what I said above is Eric Mangini in Cleveland. He has shown numerous times he has been out coached and his players are not playing for him. So Randy Lerner and the Browns are allowed to let Mangini go after this season.

Sanchez and Stafford

Just a quick hit on this. Can people stop saying that the Jets and Lions need to change qbs etc. Look both of these guys have looked like rookies. Both of them have a long way to go to be where they want to be but both have shown how good they are or they can be. Let the rookies take their lumps and learn from it. If they are making the same mistakes next year then lets talk about if they were mistakes. Look at the likes of Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning when they started tons of interceptions and very few wins. It is a learning curve let these guys learn.

Rhodes benched

Rex Ryan Head Coach of the New York Jets has benched starting safety Kerry Rhodes. Rhodes was expected to excel under Ryan and his defensive scheme but he does not have an interception, a forced fumble, or a sack. In the game last week against the Patriots he had an opportunity to legally hit Wes Welker over the middle and he let up. I think this was Ryan's last straw. He wants tough physical players and Rhodes has not shown that this year. Eric Smith will start this week.

I think this is a great move by Rex Ryan. Showing his team he wants guys that will give it their all. Too many times coaches are too loyal to players (due to how much they make or the players name) and it hurts their teams. Their are many examples of this but one that sticks out to me right now is that of the Giants and their field goal kicker Lawrence Tynes. Tynes kicked them to the Super Bowl in 07 and had some clutch kicks. Tynes has missed many kicks over the past two seasons and has hurt the Giants and it has hurt them. It is time the Giants find someone else to kick for this team.

More coaches need to do what Ryan does and bench underachieving players for the betterment of their teams.

Friday quickhits from Turkey Day Football

Will we ever get any close football games on Thanksgiving? Boy those three games were pretty brutal.

-Packers at Lions- It's tough to play football when your starting qb and your best offensive weapon are banged up. You add in a safety you signed off the street 3 weeks ago and he is making his first NFL start that says you will be in for a long day. The Packers played an all around good game and I was extremely impressed with the play of Aaron Rogers, Clay Mathews Jr., and Charles Woodson. If the Packers can play like this consistently they may make a deep run in the playoffs.

A final note on this game. People are saying they don't want Detroit on Thanksgiving day anymore. This upsets me. How can people say this? Have you ever heard of tradition? Yeah the Lions are bad and have been for awhile. I think they are on the right path now and in a few years will be a good team. Also with all the parity in this league you never know who will and will not be good. One final word Tradition.

-Raiders at Cowboys- This game was never close and there is nothing better than correcting a two week offensive slump than playing the Raiders. Miles Austin looked great again and the Cowboys dominated this team. One thing the Raiders do seem to be a better team with Bruce Gradkowski at their starter. I guess you can say bye bye bye Jamarcus Russell.

-Giants at Broncos- This game was over when the Giants started to complain about having a short week and playing on Thanksgiving. Really anyone who complained should be fined. You get played to play a game that many people would love to play and get that money. On the back end you get 10 days off and you are professionals. Get a life.

As for the game itself. The Broncos played well and are done with their four game losing streak. They sit at 7-4 one game out of 1st place in the AFC West and a half game lead in the wildcard race. Five of their last 6 games 3 of them are played against the Chiefs (2 games) and the Raiders. If they win those three they will get to 10 wins and should be able to get into the playoffs with 10 wins. I see them taking care of the Raiders but I see the Chiefs playing two close games against them and maybe even pulling off an upset or two.

As for the Giants their next three games are against the NFC East (vs. Cowboys, vs. Eagles, at Redskins). If the Giants can win those three they are right back in the playoff picture. If they lose any their season is just about done. I definitely see them losing one of the games (maybe even more). This team is not functioning well at all. The linebackers and secondary have hurt this team and without a running game it is easier to stop Eli Manning. The Giants need to do something to shake things up and I would not be surprised to see Bill Sheridan (defensive coordinator) fired this week.

Week 12 Game of the Week and the Tailgate dish for the game.

This one was a no brainer. You have arguably the best AFC team going to the best NFC team. Maybe this will be a Super Bowl preview. It is the 10 and 0 Saints against the 7 and 3 Patriots. The Patriots look to derail another undefeated team. The Saints look to continue their perfect streaks. Being this game is on Monday night I expect both teams to be pumped and give it their all. I expect the Saints to pull off a close battle and win by a touchdown. Drew Brees should have no problem carving up the Patriots secondary.

Here is my dish of the week for this game:

To go along with the Thanksgiving meal and to honor John Madden my tailgate special if the week is a Turducken. A Turducken is a deboned chicken with stuffing on top, then a deboned duck with stuffing on top, and then a turkey. It is delicious and I highly recommend you order it. Now the stuffing can change but this week with the game being played in New Orleans I say you go for the Cajun stuffing. Here is the link on how to order and cook this food http://www.cajungrocer.com/fresh-foods-holiday-dishes-turducken-c-1_15_24.html. Now to enjoy the Turducken you should wash this down with one of New Orleans own a Hurricane. Be careful though Hurricanes have high alcohol content and one of them can knock you out. So sit back enjoy the game and save some Turducken for me.

Survivor Picks Wk 12

With the early week here are my top 5 picks for the week. By far the toughest week to call survivor.

1. Bengals over Browns: With the Bengals coming off the loss and the Browns coming off a close game against the Lions you may wonder why I put this game first. The Bengals are at home and are a better team than the Browns. I do not like picking division games but I am going with the better team here and going against arguable the worst team in the NFL.

2. Cowboys over Raiders: As I said this is a bad week for survivor pools. I am going with the mere fact that the Cowboys always play well on Thanksgiving and know how to prepare for a shortened week. I am also making this my number two pick because the Raiders are a bad road team.

3. Chargers over the Chiefs: The Chiefs put all of their effort last week against the defending Super Bowl champ. Todd Haley used to coach in Pittsburgh and knew the strengths and weaknesses of that team. The Chargers are on a roll and are clicking on all cylinders. I do not seeing the Chiefs upsetting two highly favored teams in a row and you add this one is on the road.

4. Falcons over the Buccaneers: Atlanta is coming off a tough loss against the Giants and have lost key players to injury. The Bucs have been better with Freeman as q. I can see an upset here but I am putting this game down for the mere fact the Falcons are the better team and they are playing at home.

5. Vikings over Bears and Eagles over Redskins: These two are tied. Both division games where the Vikings and Eagles are better football teams but the Redskins have shown life and the Bears are better then they play. Both will be tough games. I see the Vikings having a little bit of an easier time and the Eagles pulling it off in the end but I would steer clear of these two games if I can.

Hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving and their football. Tough week to pick.

Roethlisberger questionable

Besides losing two games in a row the Steelers are dealing with two injuries to their top two qbs. Charlie Batch relieved Ben Roethlisberger in the game against the Chiefs and broke his wrist. Big Ben left the game in overtime after being kneed in the while running away from pressure. People believe he had a concussion but the Steelers have not confirmed or denied the report. If Big Ben can not go third year player Dennis Dixon will make his first NFL start. Dixon is a running qb and would bring a different dimension to the Steelers offense. If he starts I would expect the Steelers to simplify their offense and even put plays in for Dixon to run with the ball. Do not be surprised to see the Steelers sign Jeff Garcia. An experienced qb who can win games.

For Big Ben this is his third head related injury and possibly his third concussion. The league is really making an effort to be careful with concussions. Commissioner Roger Goodell is in the process of having independent (of the team) brain specialists on the sidelines during all NFL games to clear players with head injuries. He is also making it mandatory that all players with concussions see these specialists to be cleared to play after a concussion.

Goodell is really focusing his attention to brain injuries and concussions in football. He is looking into making certain helmets mandatory for all football players to wear that would give them more padding. He has spoken to many people about this matter and I will not be surprised if he had a meeting about head injuries. Goodell is being extra cautious because he is becoming more aware of the long term effects of concussions and he wants to protect the players as much as possible.

Week 12 Picks

So this week I went 13-3 with my picks and overall I am 24-6 since writing the blog. With three games this Thanksgiving lets get to the picks early this week.

-Packers at Lions

The Pack are in the playoff hunt. The d played great the last two weeks (though gave up 3 late tds in week 11) and this team really wants this game.

The Lions usually play well on Thanksgiving. The Lions offense played great last week but showed their defense does not exist.

I see a closer game than people think but I see the Packers winning 27-20.

-Raiders at Cowboys

This is a tough decision. You have two teams that have played inconsistent. The Raiders beat a good Bengals team last week and played much better with Bruce Gradkowski at qb. The defense shows up when it wants. A very weird team.

The Cowboys beat the Eagles in Philly and they look like they will take off. They lose to the Packers in Green Bay and score a late meaningless td. This week they score a late td to win the game.

I see the Cowboys winning pretty easily 27-10.

-Giants at Broncos

The Giants d has let them down the last two weeks. Eli is coming off a great game. With the win against the Falcons the Giants kept their playoff and division title hopes alive.

The Broncos are falling fast. They started 6-0 and now are 6-4. They are struggling on offense with or without an injured Kyle Orton and their defense has been playing well but seems to have lost some of their magic.

I see a back and forth game and I give a slight edge to the Giants with Eli and a team that has won these type of games before. I see a 24-20 Giant win.

-Dolphins at Bills

Another tough division game. The Dolphins find themselves battling for a playoff spot and maybe a division title. The defense has played great. The running game is rolling (can Ricky run 20 times a game the rest of the year?) and Henne looks great but his receivers are not that great.

The Bills played great against the Jaguars but came up short. TO made an appearance. The d played well. Still not a good team though.

I see the Dolphins wanting it more and winning 23-13.

Seahawks at Rams

Two teams that are struggling and are playing for pride the rest of the year. The Seahawks are the better team right now. Many people expected more from the Hawks this year but they have disappointed. The Seahawks seem to win the games they are supposed to win and lose the games they are supposed to lose.

The Rams have played hard the last two weeks and seem to be growing with Steve Spagnola.

I see a hard fought game here but I think the Rams will surprise the Seahawks 17-13.

Colts at Texans

A still undefeated Colts team. The last few weeks they have won some real close games and are flirting with their first loss. Their offense is great. Their defense has been playing real good.

The Texans are fighting for the playoffs and have been playing real well. Their offense is potent and their defense is coming around.

I see another close game between these two teams. I see the Texans finally knocking off the Colts and winning 27-24.

Browns at Bengals

Can the Browns find any other way to lose. It is tough being a Browns fan now. Brady Quinn showed why he was the number 22 pick a few years back last week. Are the Browns allergic to defense though? Boy up 21 and they lose on the last play real bad.

As I said last week be careful getting on the Bengals bandwagon. They showed it last week against the lowly Raiders. Their offense is still good and their defense as well.

I see the Bengals taking their frustrations out on the Browns in a big way. I see a 27-3 Bengals win.

Panthers at Jets

So much was expected of the Panthers. What a disappointing year for them. Their running game has been great but Jake Delhomme has killed this team. Also their defense has had games where they looked great and games where they were run all over.

The Jets are who we thought they were (thank you Dennis Green http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_N1OjGhIFc). With a rookie qb and a rookie coach they are a 500 team at best. Sanchez has had times when he looked great and like last week times when he looked like a rookie. Depending on which Sanchez plays the Jets play that way too. This team has lost 4 games on the last play. I expect this team to play with pride the rest of the way and play well.

I see a close game but the Jets finally getting one of these close ones 27-24.

Buccaneers at Falcons

The Bucs have been playing better with Freeman as qb but he looked like a rookie against the Saints last week. The defense has played so so at best.

The Falcons have struggled as of late. The running game has been good but Matt Ryan has be ok so far. The defense has not been great either.

I see the Falcons getting back on track and winning 28-13.

Redskins at Eagles

The Skins have been playing much better as of late. They almost got one from the Cowboys last week. The defense has been playing great and Jason Campbell has learned how to play without turning the ball over.

The Eagles have had a tough few weeks. The offense has been playing great but their defense has not helped them out. The d has been getting a little better though. Anytime on offense the Eagles can score from anywhere.

I see a physical battle with the Eagles winning 24-14.

Chiefs at Chargers

The Chiefs have won two in a row and have been playing really well. All year I thought Todd Haley and Matt Cassel would get this team playing and show that they will have a bright future which I think is happening now.

The Chargers have found their stride and are about to run away with the AFC West. The defense has been playing great and Rivers, Jackson, LT and company have been great the last few weeks.

I see the Chargers winning this 31-17.

Jaguars at 49ers

The Jags got away with victories the last tow weeks with last second wins. Maurice Jones-Drew and Mike Sims-Walker have lead this offensive attack. The defense has played well most of the year.

The 49ers are missing a play maker at the qb position as well as the wr position. Frank Gore has played great all year when healthy. Their defense has played well at times and have been smoked at times. The team is just too inconsistent. Mike Singletary is building a team in San Fran just a few more pieces he needs.

I see the Jags playing tough and really wanting this one to keep their playoff chances alive. I see a 24-17 Jaguars win.

Bears at Vikings

Is that another penalty, field goal, or turnover by the Bears. This team has shot themselves in the foot again and again. Jay Cutler is to blame but I also think the coaching staff is too. The defense has not been effective as well. Lovie Smith and the coaching staff is looking over their shoulder.

The Vikings have been great. A great offense lead by Favre and a very solid good defense.

I see the Vikings continuing on their winning ways. I see a Vikings win of 31-20.

Cardinals at Titans

To pick this game I want to see the injury to Kurt Warner play out. With Leinhart at qb this team is a different team. Luckily their running game seems to be coming around.

The Titans have been playing great with Vince Young. He has instilled fight in this team.

I see the Titans winning a close one 31-28.

Steelers at Ravens

This game may change depending on Big Ben's head injury. What a way to end a holiday weekend with a great AFC North match up. These are two teams that hate each other fighting for the playoffs. The Steelers have lost two tough ones in a row. Last week against the Chiefs they had some real bad turnovers and the defense couldn't prevent the Chiefs from scoring. The Steelers are really struggling.

The Ravens lost a tough one to the Colts last week. Ray Rice has really helped the offense and the defense is not what it once was but has been playing better.

I see a slobber knocker. A real close smash mouth game. I see the Steelers taking another step towards a playoff run and winning 17-13.

Patriots at Saints

In the game of the week you have the team that wants to attempt what the Patriots did not accomplish a few years ago and go 18-0. This is the real last challenge the Saints will have in the regular season. The Patriots had a tough loss to the Colts a few weeks ago which people are still talking about 4th and 2. Tom Brady to Welker and Moss is a great group. I see them to continue rolling. The defense isn't what it once was but is playing a little better the last few weeks.

The Saints just continue to roll. Brees has been great and the defense is playing very well.

I see a high scoring barn burner here. I see the Saints pulling it off 38-31.

Week 11: Monday Quikhits

Here are my thoughts from Week 11.

-Another nice win by the Dolphins. I question if a 32 year old Ricky Williams can carry 20 times a game for the remaining 6 weeks. If he can and looks like this the Dolphins can make a playoff push.

-Colts and Saints stay undefeated. Saints had a Brees and the Colts had a close one. What a one handed grab by Dallas Clark.

- Dallas pulled off a close victory and stay in 1st place in the NFC East.

-Browns Lions played a great offensive game and the Browns find a way to lose the game with a pass interference and Matt Stafford hits Pettigrew for the win. Crazy game.

-The Pack held off a late push by the 9ers to keep their playoff dreams alive.

-The Jags win in the last two minutes against a tough Buffalo team who played hard for their new coach. Also TO showed he still has games left in the tank.

-The Chiefs had the upset of the week against a turnover prone Steelers team in overtime and the Bengals lost to the Raiders in another upset. All teams in contention in the AFC North lost so this division seems it will come down to the final weeks. I see the Steelers making a push and coming away with the division.

-Favre and the Pack keep rolling. The Giants pulled off an ot victory and their defense lets them down for a 2nd week in a row late. The Giants aren't the team that won the SB a few years back but if they get into the playoffs I wouldn't want to play them.

-Arizona is pulling away in the NFC West. Hopefully Warner is ok and will be back soon as Matt Leinhart starting for the Cardinals would make defenses drool. The only good thing the Cards have going for them is that their running game is doing well.

-The Chargers have staked claim to the AFC West and I don't see them relinquishing it. The Broncos are struggling and I see them not making the playoffs.

-The Patriots now have a two game lead in the AFC East and should run away with it now. They manhandled the Jets and made Marc Sanchez look like a scared rookie. Brady to Welker is lethal.

-The Bears seem to continue to struggle and the Eagles fly out of Chicago with a nice victory. I look forward to see how the NFC East plays out.

Dolphins: Brown out for the year

Bye bye Wildcat? The man who ran the Wildcat to perfection has been placed on injured reserve with a foot injury. Brown was a threat running the Wildcat by either throwing or running. Brown is the Dolphins best player on offense and a team that is very reliant on him with miss him greatly. This will cause the Dolphins to run a more traditional offense which will show why the Dolphins installed the Wildcat. I see the Dolphins having difficulties the rest of the season because of this loss. Ricky Williams will play well in his absence but he is not Ronnie Brown.

Brohm signs with Buffalo

In a minor move that I see that could turn into a nice move by the Bills is the signing of Brian Brohm off of the Green Bay Packers practice squad. In a show of no confidence in Trent Edwards, Buffalo has named Ryan Fitzpatrick starter for this Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Brohm was highly touted coming out of Louisville and was a 2nd round pick of the Packers 2 years ago. He was beat out by Matt Flynn as a backup on Green Bay and was not very impressive there. I believe Brohm has potential and I can see the Bills maybe getting lucky here and find their qb of the future. I would not be surprised to see Brohm as the starting qb in the next 2-3 weeks for the Bills to see what they have with him.

Buffalo and Shanahan

The Buffalo Bills have reached to Mike Shanahan to talk to them about their head coaching position. I am not surprised that the Bills did this. I do not however seeing Shanahan taking this job. I think he is eyeing a team with an established qb and who maybe a few pieces from making a run to the Super Bowl. Speculation has been Shanahan to Dallas and that is where I see him going. We'll see how this unfolds.

Survivor Picks for Week 11

Here are my 5 picks for Survivor Pools this week.

Steelers at Chiefs- The Steelers play every game close and the Chiefs do as well. I think the Steelers bounce back with a nice win here but the absence of Palomalu hurts that team.

Seahawks at Vikings- This is a game I am nervous to touch. I can possibly see an upset in this game. The Hawks are a much better team with Hasselback as the qb. The Vikings have been playing close games going into the 4th quarter and one day soon they will be picked off again by a team. I feel this may be one of those games.

Saints at Bucs- Saints have played 3 close games in a row and the Bucs are playing inspired ball with rookie Josh Freeman as the qb. The Saints are too good to lose this one. They may get caught looking ahead but I do not think so. I believe their trap/let down game was last week against the Rams.

Cardinals at Rams- Rams played the Saints tough. The Cards have been great on the road. Maybe a close game though I think the Rams went for it all against the Saints. I see the Cards winning this one big.

Bengals at Oakland- Bengals are good. Oakland is not. I just don't trust the Bengals yet but they will win this one.

Here is the order of the way I would pick them.

1. Cards over Rams
2. Saints over Bucs
3. Bengals over Oakland
4. Steelers over Chiefs
5. Vikings over Seahawks

Week 11 Game of the Week and recipe: Chargers at Broncos

This was a tough decision this week. I went back and forth between the Colts at the Ravens but I have to go with the game that is for 1st place this late in the season. So the game is the Chargers at the Broncos. If the Chargers win I believe that the Broncos definitely will not make the playoffs. As I mentioned in my week 11 picks I see the Chargers winning this one.

So to go with my game of the week here is my Denver Broncos tailgate recipe:

Eric Greene of Durango has the perfect Denver Broncos tailgate recipe and it goes perfectly with Thanksgiving week coming up:

Turkey Hash Patties
Leftover turkey meat, boned, with skin and extra fat discarded Leftover stuffing, about one part to four parts turkey Turkey gravy, just enough to moisten mixture Onion and celery, ground with fine blade in a food processor, to taste Garlic powder Salt and pepper to taste MSG, optional
Using a food processor with a coarse blade attachment, grind the first four ingredients. Add the seasonings and mix on slow speed until blended. Form into oval patties about 2x4 inches.
Note: If the patties are too dry, add more gravy. If they are too moist and fall apart, add breadcrumbs or more ground dressing.
Using heart-healthy oil, (olive or canola), fry patties in frying pan until nicely browned on both sides.

Wash this down with a beer from the Durango Brewing Company http://www.durangobrewing.com/our-beer/ and you will be ready for the Chargers Broncos.

Enjoy the food, drinks and football.

What to look forward to

Just some other things I will add to the blog this week:

-I will pick the game of the week and based on that game I will have the tailgate dish to go with it.

-Also look for the rank of my top 5 picks for survivor pools.

-I will also write about players who I think will have big fantasy weeks.

Chiefs: Bowe Suspended

Dawayne Bowe was suspended for using performing enhancing drugs. He claims it was from a diuretic. This will hurt the Chiefs losing their best rb and now wr in a two week period. The Chiefs are not going anywhere so it will not hurt them this year. Todd Haley had issues with Bowe in the beginning of the year and I think this will not sit well with Haley either. I will not be surprised to see Bowe traded at the end of the year for draft picks as the Chiefs are in the process of rebuilding. If you own Bowe in fantasy keep him as he will return for fantasy playoffs and he will be able to contribute.
