Week 16 Quikhits

Some interesting games around the league and the embarrassment of the Colts decision.

-The Chargers went into Tennessee and destroyed the Titans on Christmas night. This clinched the number two spot for the Chargers and knocked the Titans out of the playoffs. I believe that this is the beginning of the Chargers run to the Super Bowl.

-The Falcons destroyed the Bills. Brian Brohm got his first NFL start and did not show much. TO caught his 1,000th pass in the NFL (only 6th player to do that). Congrats TO. Ryan and the Falcons took over this game early and never stopped.

-The Bengals won and clinched the AFC North. The Chiefs fought hard but came up short. Jamal Charles looks like a player and has a bright future. Now the question is do the Bengals play their starters against the Jets on Sunday night or pull a Colts and sit them. Knowing they will play the Jets the following week I would not be surprised to see the Bengals rest their starters.

-The Browns have played well the last few games and may save Eric Mangini's job. Jerome Harrison has been running hard and looks like he can be a star in this game. The Raiders played well but 3 picks by the Browns sealed their victory.

-Do the Seahawks know that at kickoff they are supposed to show up. They have played awful the last few weeks. Matt Hasselback looks old, the players are not playing, and Jim Mora should look over his shoulder. The Packers clinched a wildcard birth and have been playing great. The offense lead by Rodgers and Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson have lead the defense. This is a team I would want to avoid in the playoffs.

-What a crazy game in Miami. The Dolphins have started off slow the last few weeks then fight back then lose. Too bad they can not start the game or this team would be playing for the playoffs this weekend. The Texans had a great first half and were able to hold off in the end. The Texans seem to start the year off slow and close out strong. It is a question if Kubiak can save his job. I am not sure if he can but the Texans have a bright future.

-Typical Steeler-Raven game. Smashmouth hard fought defensive game. Luckily for the Steelers Derrick Mason dropped that TD pass, penalties killed the Ravens and Roethlisberger's hail mary interception (why did you throw that) was called back on a penalty or we would be talking about how the Ravens clinched a playoff spot already. The Steelers keep their playoff dreams alive though slim. The Ravens have to go to Oakland (which is harder to win than people think) in a win and in situation. If the Ravens do win and get in this is a team people would not want to play.

-Dear Giants you are closing out your stadium have a chance to keep your playoff chances alive and you are playing a team not in the playoffs. How do you get blown out at home? How does your defense not show up? Not only not show up but be scared to tackle. Jonathon Stewart ran threw you and you would have a chance to tackle him but you played like a matador. We'll call it the ole defense. What a shame Giants Stadium had to be closed down that way especially with all of the great history. As for the Panthers they are playing for John Fox's job and may have found their qb of the future. Matt Moore is 5-2 as a starter this year and has beaten two playoff teams the last two weeks.

-The Patriots blew out the Jaguars and more or less said all the talk about the other teams and the playoffs do not forget about us. The Patriots offense is still the same but there are still questions about their defense. The Jaguars had everything to play for and the better team won. It will be interesting to see what happens with Jack Del Rio.

-What has happened to the Saints? Up 17-0 and they lose 20-17. The Bucs have shown fight the last few weeks. Good builder for next year. The Saints have fallen back to the pack and there are alot of concerns with this team. One move I think that will hurt them is the releasing of John Carney. I believe if certain person has gotten you to a certain point you stick with them unless they make a mistake or the player coming back is an all-time great and in this situation neither applied.

-The Cardinals blew out the Rams and are holding out hope to maybe have an outside shot of being the number 2 seed. The Rams are seeing what they have for the future. Not that entertaining of a game.

-The 49ers beat the Lions easily. Not much to this game. Better team won and the Lions miss Stafford.

-The Denver Philly game was a great game. Two teams fighting for playoff spots. Both teams hungry for wins. The Eagles had a late lead that their defense could not hold. The Eagles offense scored a last second fg to win it. Set up by a great grab by Jeremy Maclin. The Eagles are a very good team and the only thing holding them back from being a Super Bowl contender is their defense. The Broncos took a tough loss and no longer hold their own destiny. To make the playoffs they will need alot of help at this point.

-Colts Jets. Not much happened in this game. Ok enough with the sarcasm. The Jets a team battling for their playoff lives. The Colts looking to close out the stretch with everything locked up. The question all week was will the Colts sit their stars. Well we learned in the 3rd quarter that they will. Leading 15-10 and 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter Jim Caldwell called the horses off. In a close game it was shocking to see Caldwell pull Peyton and company. Peyton and company wanted to get back in there. You could tell on the sideline. Even after the Painter fumble and the Jets took a 3 point lead Peyton was ready to get back in there and Caldwell said no. Many things can be said about this. I am not a football coach but if it was me in game 15 of 16 I am playing my team all the way through (except for two reasons 1. if the player is injured or 2. Peyton is getting hit and could get injured and the Jets did not even come close to touching him). If this was next week I would have no problem with that. As for the Jets. Everything that had to happen for them did and now they hold their own destiny. With a win Sunday night the Jets will play the Bengals again the following week. If the Bengals know their playoff seeding come Sunday night I would not be surprised if the Bengals do not show the Jets anything (like play their starters) and prepare for them the following week.

-With the Giants loss the Cowboys locked up a playoff spot with their shutout victory of the Redskins. The Cowboys Eagles game next week will be a good one. The Redskins defense played well last night but Jim Zorn's team forgot how to play offense.
