McNabb to Skins!!!!

Earlier tonight the Philadelphia Eagles traded starting qb Donovan McNabb within their division to the Washington Redskins. The Skins gave up the 37th pick in the draft this year and a 3rd or 4th round pick in 2011.

Lets take a look at this from Eagles point of view first. Since Tom Heckert left new GM Howie Roseman has ridded the Eagles of older veterans and has been rebuilding from within. With the trades the Eagles have picked up 11 draft picks with 5 in the first 90. The Eagles are rebuilding on the fly. Though Kevin Kolb had 2 300 yard games in in his first two starts he is still a question mark but Roseman and Andy Reid believe he is ready to take over as qb. Andy Reid said he looked into trades for Michael Vick and Kolb but trading McNabb was the best option. Overall I think this is a good trade for the Eagles because it was time for them and McNabb to go their separate ways. That being said they traded a veteran qb with still a few good years in him to a division opponent. That is the one strike I have on this deal for the Eagles. Only time will tell but I will not be surprised if McNabb comes back to haunt the Eagles.

As for the Redskins this is a great trade for them. They have a defense that is above average and is at playoff caliber. Last year their offense struggled under Jim Zorn and many believe Mike Shanahan can coach the offense up. After a 4 and 12 season The Redskins feel the addition of McNabb can make them a wildcard contender. McNabb can probably get them to 8 and 8 this year. With the 4th overall pick the Redskins can focus on picking an offensive lineman to bolster a struggling unit. With the help along the offensive line and the addition of McNabb it should set them up for playoff contention for the next few years. The last time Mike Shanahan took a job he inherited a 34 year old qb named John Elway. In the 2nd year Shanahan and Elway won their first of two Super Bowls. Shanahan is hoping for the same thing with McNabb.

A minor note to this deal opens up the option for the Redskins to trade Jason Campbell and get one of their draft picks back.
