Holmes to Jets

Late last night the New York Jets worked out a deal for Pittsburgh Steeler wide receiver Santonio Holmes. The trade is for the Jets 5th round pick this year (there are some rumors that the trade may include Leon Washington but that has not been confirmed). For the Jets to get a talent like Holmes for a 5th round pick it is a steal for them. That being said Holmes does come with baggage and that is the reason the Steelers got rid of him. Holmes has been accused of domestic abuse and drug possession but the charges have been dropped. In October Holmes was found with marijuana and has a possible 4 game suspension (since it was his 2nd offense) as well as an incident about a month ago with throwing a glass in a woman's face at a nightclub (though another man has come forward and admitted he was the one who threw the glass at her).

Holmes is a talented player and when he plays he is a difference maker. Add in Braylan Edwards and Jericho Cotchery the Jets may have the best 1, 2, 3 combination in the NFL. If Holmes can come in and focus on football and not get into any trouble the Jets will be very hard to beat. The Jets have a number of players who have off field issues and it will be interesting to see if Rex Ryan can deal with all of these off the field issues. Players like playing for Rex and with the veteran structure the Jets have I believe the players will fall in line. As Channing Crowder said last year "Super Bowl's are never won in the offseason," and as Chris Berman says, "That's why you play the games." Looking at what the Jets are doing they will be a favorite to win the championship but as we know in football between injuries and other things it is a long season.
